Hampton Bays Sunday after the blizzard.

Classes, events and activities will resume Tuesday as scheduled at Stony Brook Southampton and the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, the Stony Brook University administration announced Monday afternoon.

However, the school acknowledged that driving to and around the campus might not be easy, as the process of snow removal is still underway.

"Due to ongoing campus snow removal efforts students traveling to campus are encouraged to carpool if possible or consider utilizing the Long Island Rail Road or the Suffolk County Transit system which are expected to resume normal schedules tomorrow," Larry Zacarese, the director of the Office of Emergency Management, said in an email blast Monday.

As of Monday evening, LIRR service on the Montauk Branch east of Speonk is suspended, with no word on whether trains will resume running Tuesday morning.

The University also urged faculty to be understanding of students who might miss classes due to snow related causes.

"Faculty are asked to make every possible accommodation for students impacted by the snowstorm, including not penalizing students for missed class time," Zacarese said.

Students with questions can call the dean of students office at 631-632-7320. For the latest updates from Stony Brook, visit www.stonybrook.edu/emergency/alerts.
