Southampton Village could be getting a bit bigger soon, if a developer's petition to have a new condominium development annexed by the village is met with approval.

The luxury condos, dubbed Bishops Pond at Southampton Village, are taking shape east of Magee Street, where a sand mine and composting site once was. Despite its name, only part of the development currently lies within the village boundaries, while the rest is in an unincorporated area of Southampton Town.

The plan calls for 77 villas and townhomes and a common tennis court, clubhouse and pool, according to the development's website. A sales office has opened at 46 Jobs Lane in the village to find buyers.

The development is a venture of Michael Dubb's Beechwood Organization, with Steven Dubb and George Benedict.

Benedict is the father-in-law of Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley; when the Village Board voted last Thursday to set a hearing date on the petition, Epley abstained.

A joint public hearing of the Southampton Town Board and Southampton Village Board at Town Hall was set for May 9 at 4 p.m., to hear from residents in favor of and against the annexation.

Do you think Southampton Village should annex the remainder of the Bishops Pond development? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
