Crimes and suspicious incidents reported to the Southampton Town Police Department between Aug. 26 and Sept. 2:
Grand Larceny
• A New York City man who hosted several guests at his North Haven On the Bluffs home on Sept. 1 told police that he noticed his $4,000 Ulysse Nardin Swiss watch was gone after the seven guests left the house the following morning. Whomever is responsible for the theft faces possible third-degree grand larceny charges.
• At the Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton August 29, an Endiott woman said her handbag was stolen from a footlocker at a stable. Missing is an assortment of credit and debit cards, a Coach purse and wallet and $200 cash.
• In Riverside on Aug. 25, a woman told police that an unknown person entered the basement bedrooms at her home on Wildwood Trail and removed $2,600 in cash from several rooms. Police are investigating.
•A Southampton man told police Aug. 31 that his 2003 Land Rover Discovery was stolen from his driveway on Far Pond Road. He said he had left the keys inside the vehicle the previous day. No arrests related to the car theft have been reported.
• In Bridgehampton Aug. 29, an employee of Rhetts Landscape Design, which is based in East Hampton, told police that a leaf blower and hedge trimmer were taken from the company’s truck while the crew was working at a location on Rose Way. The two missing items are valued at $1,220.
Burglary
• A Westhampton woman reported that an HP black notebook computer was taken from her home on Lakeside Lane on Aug. 26. The laptop was recovered at a nearby residence the following day.
• In Flanders Aug. 29, a man who lives on Maple Avenue told police that he found a male stranger standing in the hallway of his upstairs hallway brandishing a bread knife and demanding money. The victim said he fled through the back door to a neighbor’s house and called for help. An iPod valued at $300 was stolen.
• Twenty-one cell phones and $300 in cash were reported stolen from the Hampton Wireless store in Hampton Bays on Aug. 31. The owner of the store, located on West Montauk Highway, reported to police that several iPhones, Samsung phones and three BlackBerry phones were taken from the store at night when it was closed. He noticed that a side window had been broken, which is how police believe entry into the store was made.
• In Flanders on Sept. 1, a man who lives in an apartment on Port St. reported that an iPhone, gold jewelry and a shoebox containing personal documents were stolen from the residence. Police are investigating.
Identity Theft
• An East Quogue woman who lives on Corbett Street complained to police Aug. 29 that she received a bill from an eBay payment service of $373.95 for purchases made on the auction site. She stated that she never signed up for the service. The case has been forwarded to the eBay fraud department.
• In Noyac on Aug. 28, a woman who lives on Wickatuck Drive reported that purchases over the past month were made falsely in her name on her debit visa card. The total of the charges is $1,318. Whoever is responsible faces a charge of identity theft in the second degree.
• A Southampton woman told police Aug. 30 that someone filed a tax return in her name without her permission. She told police that she called the IRS in order to start the refutation process. She was advised to call local authorities on the matter.
Petty Larceny
• In Flanders August 27, a man reported to police that someone went through his car which was parked in his driveway on Flanders Rd. and removed a wallet and $280 cash. There are no leads into the incident at this time.
Harassment
• A North Sea man told police Aug. 29 he was frightened when a woman allegedly threatened to “slaughter him in his sleep” after he became involved in a verbal dispute with her husband. If arrested, the woman faces charges of second-degree harassment, a violation.
