While many of the 42,000 Long Islanders diagnosed with multiple sclerosis may progress to a point where they cannot ride a bike, the National MS Society will hold the 2012 East End Bike Ride on Sunday to raise money for research to find a cure so that someday they can.
Bicyclists will ride 25-, 50-, 75- or 100- mile routes through the South Fork, all starting and ending at the Southampton Elks Lodge on County Road 39. Registration is $50 and each cyclist is required to raise a minimum of $150 by Sunday.
The 100 mile route goes out to Montauk Point and starts the earliest at 7 a.m. Full check-in and start times are listed below. Routes are available here.
A bagel breakfast will be served thanks to Panera Bread.
A celebration will be held at the finish line featuring cover band RVO, and Famous Dave's BBQ. Those not cycling may purchase a wristband for $15. Children under 5 years old are free. Reservations are required for those who aren't cycling by calling Natale Raimo at 631-864-8337 or 516-740-7227 ext. 53225 or emailing her at Natale.Raimo@nmss.org.
