As a local news organization, Patch covers stories of all kinds, from heartbreaking tragedies to inspiring tales of community brotherhood. But some stories are just plain weird. Here are some of the stranger headlines from the past seven days.

Another Montauk Monster?

Well, based on the trove of Facebook comments we got when we posted the above photo of what looked like a bizarre mouth and gullet washed up along Shinnecock Bay, we're pretty sure this isn't an alien, mythical beast or long-lost movie prop. In fact, our own Google searches have us convinced that it's the gills and gullet from a freshly cleaned striped bass. But who knows, right?

Take a look and let us know what you think it is.

And Now, a Six-Fingered Cat

Plum Island Show (Finally) to Air on Discovery

A television show about Long Island's most mysterious area, the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, is finally set to air Sunday at 10 p.m.

But while any attention to this area would be newsworthy to us, it's especially exciting since the show features North Fork Patch editor Erin Schultz.

For more about the show, you have to read her editor's notebook.
