When the world thinks of U.S. wine country, Napa Valley and Sonoma County in California immediately come to mind.

But according to Trip Advisor, Long Island Wine Country and the Finger Lakes region upstate are not too far behind on the world wine stage. The online travel guide recently listed the local wine region as number five in their top 10 list of U.S. Wine destinations, behind Sonoma County, Napa Valley, Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and the Finger Lakes.

“We know what you’re thinking. Wine? On Long Island? And it’s good? Yes, yes and yes,” reads the listing. “Most vineyards are small and bottle their vintages in very limited runs, so you’re not likely to see them in your local wine store or on many restaurant wine lists.”

Trip Advisor features smaller North Fork wineries like Sannino Bella Vita and The Old Field in the listing, saying that Long Island Wine Country is “a perfect destination for wine lovers who’ve already tasted their way through Napa and Sonoma.”
