The entire week has become a washout for three area school districts, which will all be closed Friday.
Southampton and Tuckahoe school district administrators made the call Thursday afternoon to cancel classes for the fifth straight day due to Hurricane Sandy and the subsequent power outages, flooding and blocked streets.
Sag Harbor School District decided on Wednesday to remain closed through Friday, as did Our Lady of the Hamptons in Southampton Village.
Ross School will reopen Friday. Bridgehampton and Sagaponack school districts resumed classes on Thursday.
Tuckahoe Superintendent Chris Dyer said he expects to welcome students back on Monday. To that end, alternative bus routes are being planned, and effected families will be contacted, he said.
Due to road closures caused by flooding and downed trees and powerlines, the bus route has to change, Dyer said. He noted that Bishops Lane in Southampton Village and the Cold Spring area are inaccessible, though he expects floodwaters will recede over the weekend.
Dyer said Tuckahoe aims to resume classes as soon as possible, but it also has to be done safely.
Southampton School District announced Thursday that the High School is still without power and phone service districtwide is intermittent. The district notes that crews are still working on downed powerlines and trees, and several traffic lights at busy intersections are out.
Rogers Memorial Library, Hampton Library and John Jermain Memorial Library are open.
