Two drivers were taken to Southampton Hospital Monday with minor injuries after colliding on Montauk Highway at the St. Andrews Road intersection.
The accident caused the road to be closed in both directions, with traffic being directed to County Road 39. The detour added to congestion for evening commuters.
The crash was reported at 4:43 p.m., and Montauk Highway was closed in both directions from Tuckahoe Lane west. The road reopened at 5:31 p.m.
Sgt. John Boden said Tuesday that Christian Ortiz, of Hampton Bays, was driving a 2004 Jeep westbound on Montauk Highway when James Brown, of Southampton, was driving southeast in a 1999 Ford on St. Andrews Road. Brown turned onto Montauk Highway in front of Ortiz's Jeep, Boden said.
Both men, the sole occupants of their vehicles, were transported by Southampton Volunteer Ambulance to the hospital, and no charges were filed against either driver, Boden said.
