Recent crimes and suspicious incidents reported to the Southampton Town Police Department.
Grand Larceny
• A Southampton resident was duped into sending $3,430 to a person who called impersonating her grandson. According to police, the impersonator told the victim that he was stuck at the airport and his friend was being detained on drug charges. He said he needed the money to bail his friend out, and the victim wired the money.
• A Flanders resident told police on Jan. 9 that someone charged $200 at AT&T in Bridgehampton to her Chase bank card.
• An East Quogue resident filed a report on Jan. 5 about several items, including pocketbooks, that she believes were stolen from her house. She gave police the name of a suspect.
Burglary
• A resident of North Road in Southampton reported to police on Jan. 11 that someone — who pried open the front door — stole winter clothes and a suitcase containing equipment parts.
• A Southampton resident reported to police on Jan. 10 that someone entered his unlocked trailer and stole $732 in cash from a draw as well as a lock box.
Petty Larceny
• A manager at King Kullen in Bridgehampton reported to police on Jan. 7 that someone stole items from the store including a case of Duraflame Logs, a box of Lucky Charms and paper plates.
• A hunter from Glen Cove reported to police on Jan. 10 that someone stole deer hunting tree stands from a wooded area in North Haven.
• A Hampton Bays resident reported on Jan. 5 that someone stole his mailbox, valued at $20.
• A Hampton Bays resident reported that someone over the past four weeks, someone stole a fake surveillance camera from his shed. The camera, he said, is valued at $700.
Graffiti
• A Hampton Bay resident called police on Jan. 11 to report that someone marked her fence with a permanent marker with the word, “abuse,” as well as obscenities. The fence owner told police this is the forth time her fence has been marked up.
Leaving the Scene
• An East Hampton resident told police on Jan. 5 that someone struck his car, which was parked on Noyac Road in Sag Harbor, and then left the scene without exchanging insurance information.
• A Hampton Bays resident reported to police on Jan. 11 that someone stuck the passenger side of his car on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays and then left the scene.
Criminal Mischief
The owner of Foleys Lawn Care in Southampton told police on Jan. 8 that someone spraypainted his store sign with the letters “FEA.” The sign is valued at between $400 and $500.
