Flooding on Main Street that leads towards East Rockaway and Hewlett.

The North Sea Fire Department is partnering with the East Rockaway Fire Department to get much-needed supplies to victims of Hurricane Sandy in the Rockaways and other afflicted areas.

From Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., the department's main firehouse at 149 Noyac Road, Southampton, is a drop off site for donations.

The department is looking for personal hygiene products, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner and more; cleaning supplies like mops, brooms, soap, abrasives, rags, sponges and scrub brushes; and flashlights, batteries, nonperishable foods and bottled water.

North Sea firefighter Colleen Rosko, who made the arrangements with East Rockaway Fire Department, said the donations will be delivered on Saturday, and East Rockaway firefighters will distribute the goods as needed. "It's gonna go all over," Rosko said. "It's not just for East Rockaway."

Rosko said certain donations are needed now more than others. "We're trying to stay away from clothing and blankets, because they do have an abundance of that," she said. Meanwhile, there is a shortage of baby diapers and wipes, and feminine hygiene products.

While North Sea was lucky to suffer minimal damage, others had it much worse from Hurricane Sandy, she said, adding that North Sea is a community of giving, and is happy to have the opportunity to help.

Contact Rosko at 631-741-0932 or Capt. Paul Delzato 631- 375 7750.
