The search for a missing 29-year-old man, whose jet ski overturned in Mecox Bay on Sunday evening, has resumed.
Southampton Town police divers and bay constables were back in the water Monday morning at about 6:30 a.m., and a Suffolk County police helicopter was conducting an aerial search of the area., according to Sgt. Steve Miller.
The Southampton Fire Department has not been called in to help as of 9:45 a.m., according to Chris Brenner, a department spokesman.
The police sergeant said he wasn't sure if the department had officially deemed the search a recovery effort, but noted that the fire departments are called for search and rescue operations.
With nightfall and an impending storm, the search was suspended on Sunday two hours after the man's jet ski overturned on Sunday. His name has not been released yet. A woman, who was on the jet ski with him, was pulled out of the water safely by a passing boater, police said.
