The Southampton Village Police Department headquarters.

The Southampton Village Police responded to the estate section of the village at noon on Sunday to find a woman being kept afloat by children who were at the house.

The children were unable to pull the woman, who was drowning, from the pool, according to the village's emergency service department.

Southampton Fire Department Capt. Chris Brenner said the two children, who were about ten and twelve years old did a "valiant job" keeping the woman, afloat.

"Everyone worked together to save this woman. It was a excellent group effort," said Brenner.

Brenner said the woman began to drown after she hit her head. She is believed to be the children's nanny.

Police EMT and firefighters were able to remove the woman from the pool with the assistance of Southampton Village Police. She was treated and transported to Southampton Hospital
